Annual Speech Competition
One of the best ways to help young Californians reach their goals is to encourage financial literacy.
On Thursday, April 17, 2014 the Credit Union Partners in Education (CU-PIE) hosted their annual speech competition. Representatives from various Sacramento area credit unions write and present a speech based on the year’s theme. This year’s theme was “Catch the Save Wave.” Seven speeches were presented, each employing different techniques to relay the importance of saving. The speakers touched on how credit unions help their members obtain financial well-being.
Participants:
Jennifer Reed, Golden 1 Credit Union
Amanda Nelson, SAFE Credit Union
Pamela Whitehead, Golden 1 Credit Union
Millard Baker, Schools Financial Credit Union
Delorean Dixon, Golden 1 Credit Union
Susan Burns, SAFE Credit Union
Crystal Sagum, SAFE Credit Union
Delorean Dixon was the 1st place winner, so Golden 1 Credit held on to the trophy for another year.
The top 3 speakers were rewarded a cash prize for their efforts. Winners are pictured with Anthony Plowden, Golden 1 Credit Union (on right) who earned 1st place in 2013.
Judges:

The annual event gives future leaders a forum to share original ideas and to remind credit unions of our shared heritage of improving the well-being of our communities.
